Great clippers, with a few caveats –
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with these clippers for several years. I have owned three or four different iterations of these same clippers. I always start out loving them and how they can slice finely without putting too much pressure on the nails. But there are a few things to know — it’s not just you1. You don’t need to buy the larger size clippers for large breed dogs. Many groomers have no trouble clipping Great Dane nails easily with this little clippers.2. The locking mechanism loves to spin around and get in your way. This seems to be the luck of the draw in some ways, because on some I’ve seen, it was fine/tight enough, but on others it was loose and spinning around.3. Same with the safety guard. This little spoon-shaped guard is supposed to prevent you from clipping too much nail at a time to prevent quicking. In reality, it’s better practice to take just a sliver at a time – don’t risk going too deep on an opaque nail. I would remove the safety guard if I was an ounce more motivated, because it seems like it’s often blocking my view of the nail. I know this can be achieved by grabbing it with pliers but I have not done it.4. Nail clippers dull over time. This was the thing I never appreciated. How could everyone rave about these magical clippers when mine were so awful and my dogs hated them more and more each trim? Then I finally heard someone online say that they replace theirs a few times a year. What? I had no idea — I thought I was supposed to buy it for life. Like anything with an edge, it can dull over time, especially if it’s in a grooming bag/tack box in close proximity to grooming sprays, moistened brushes, bath items, etc. When you feel like you’re doing everything right but the clippers ar starting to crush the nail instead of slicing through, you might need to sharpen or replace. I’m sure there are people who have had luck with theirs for a decade but that has not been my experience with either these red clippers or the orange Miller’s Forge ones.5. If your animal is having a bad time with nail care, look into cooperative care. One common author on the subject is Deb Jones, PHD. These books/courses/whatever on nail care and other cooperative care will change your worldview and improve the experience for both you and your animal.Hope this helps!

I’m impressed. Worked great on my beagles nails!
These clippers were better than expected! Cut through my beagles nails like butter. I was shocked at how well they worked. If you are on the fence, get them. You won’t be disappointed. The reason for 4 stars is because as other reviews have stated, the red handles try to slip off while you are using them. I’m going to glue them in place to solve the problem. Other than that I saw no issues. We didn’t use the guard so I can’t speak to how well that works, but I am overall thrilled with these. It took only a few minutes and he was off playing with his toys again with his nails all clipped and done. That says a lot for these because he absolutely hates having his nails done.

    Same clippers my vet uses
I have gone through a couple pairs of cheap guillotine clippers and they just were not good… they were more crushing the nail than cutting it and they left an uneven, almost jagged edge. So I asked my vet what they use and it was these. I use them on my 6- and 20- pound dogs, but also on my 50-pound dog. The are really great, I’m glad I got them. The cut very smoothly and quietly. They leave a nice edge on the nail after cutting. They are easy to hold. Such a simple thing that makes the task just so much better!

    Sharp & Easy
I’m a newbie to nail cutting. I bought some clippers at petco. They are loud and it’s kind of hard more me to use them with my small hands. My Lucy didn’t like them either. I’m so glad I bought these!! They are so sharp that they don’t bother Lucy one bit and she kept handing me her paw. Yeah the guard moves too easily but it’s not that big of a deal. It actually caught most of the nail clippings so they didn’t fly all over. I did cut one of her nails a tiny bit too close and it started to bleed a tiny bit and it didn’t seem to bother her. Definitely worth every penny compared to the stupid petco clippers.

    Finally, a clipper that works!
Just received 7 minutes ago, opened package clipped my 70 lb dogs nails in 5 minutes. She normally hates getting nails clipped, these were so sharp and precise she actually let me clip them. Beyond impressed, diameter of the nail was not too big for the cutters, perfect for a lab sized dog. She has brittle nails and these cut 95% clean with very little splintering. I usually soak her nails first but was so eager to try these we just went for it. Full tang metal handles, no plastic to break. The lock does flop around a bit but could be secured with tape if it’s a problem. Safety guard is ready to use or swing out of the way. My only wish was that it was made in the USA. ZERO REGRETS, BUY IT.

Cuts large dogs nails without crushing them.
I’ve bought a number of nail clippers for my Mastiff and Great Dane. I prefer these to all the others because they cut rather than crush the large dog’s nails.

I love how thin and sharp the blade is, and I can use it on all sizes of dog from toy size to giant. Easy and comfortable to hold.

Have used this before. Best nail clipper around!

I purchased this product because it alleges to safely cut nails of small or medium dogs. It didn’t. In fact it cut far too deeply despite purporting to have a ‘safety stop bar’. My dog is small – under 10lb. The nail clipper cut deeper than it should have. There was no way to adjust the safety stop bar which meant the clippers cut more than a few mm. My poor dog yelped and bled. Do not buy these clippers if you have a amall dog.
