Beyond Cute & Cooling If Filled With Ice Cold Water
Do we really need this cool water mat for our animals? YES! Lol- yes. I have laughed so good watching the dog walk on it & experience the wavy water. The cat? Always suspicious. He’ll come around. Especially if he thinks I’m enjoying watching the dog play on it more than him!I’ve come up with an idea on how to get really cold water inside of it so that it can truly be cooling in this heat we’re experiencing. The water hole on the back is perfectly sized for getting water from our kitchen sink or mud room sink. It is not sized right for the ice our fridge makes to be put into that hole & get inside the water pouch. So I put a pitcher of iced water out until the majority of the ice has melted making really cold water and I then pour that into the water hole for the mat. Now THAT is a cooling mat tried and true. This heatwave we are in the midst of is brutal, so this item, to me, is worth getting and trying out with your pet. I can’t speak to claws and the durability of the mat against cat claws. I can tell you that the dog didn’t make any impression from his paws/claws that led to any damage. I know- cats claws are different. And even though my big boy cat loves to “make muffins” with his paws/claws, I can’t see him doing it on the mat. I can see him trying to get the lil fish that float and move in the water under his paws. I still don’t think he’ll shred it. Time will tell.I love it. The dog isn’t bored with it yet and the cat will learn to love it, I think, seeing his “brother” on it. The outer ring literally took me maybe 4 good breaths to blow up. No pump or balloon blower thing is needed. And I did not fill my mat to the rim with water either as I think my animals like the “waves” and fish movement with it half full.Yes- I recommend. Hope I’ve been helpful.

    As expected
I ordered this thinking it might be fun for our 6-month-old kitten, but she hasn’t been particularly impressed. She seemed more entertained by the air bubbles than the foam sea creatures, but not overly interested in those either. Every cat is different. What fails to excite one might be the greatest thing ever to another, so I wouldn’t criticize it over one kitten’s lack of interest. Unfortunately this also means that I can’t really speak for how well it holds up to claws.

Very surprised by how cool this water bed is!
We got this for our cats and our small dogs. They were initially wary of it, so be patient with your pets. They might not like it right away because it’s a different sensory experience under their feet, but hang in there! We recommend using bits of food or treats, or something they normally don’t get but really like. Putting that in the middle of the water bed helped coax our pomeranian to take his first steps onto it. They all love it now! I think it will also be helpful during these extremely hot summer months, as it serves as a cooling mat due to the water inside. I’d recommend this to anyone who needs something new for their pets to play with and keep them busy. It’ll also help them “chill out” ;).

PVC seems thick. Should not be sole cooling technique and I wouldn’t use in direct sunlight.
I got this for my 4 cats. I wasn’t sure how this would go over with them – would they be interested at all – or how it would hold up, but I was interested in at least trying it. I was happy with the apparent thickness of the plastic. All of my boys have all their claws, and they aren’t scared to use them during play. So far, there haven’t been any issues with popping or springing a leak.I do make sure that this is only allowed for supervised play because 1) if it does pop, we don’t want the water going everywhere without us around to quickly clean it up and 2) if it pops, my husband suggested if the cats drank the spilled water that had been in contact with the plastic, it could make them sick. He’s a plastics engineer, so I trust his expertise in this matter. You blow up the outer ring with air and the inside large pocket is to be filled with water. It is tricky to fill without getting water everywhere and the plug is also a little tricky to close. However, I think this is probably just a matter of figuring out the best/easiest way to do it, or maybe the answer is to fill it in the tub.Unfortunately, while 3 of the 4 did do varying levels of investigating initially, no one fell in love with it. I also need to play around with getting the right amount of water in it. I was afraid of putting too much in, but with too little, the little floating shapes do not move around freely. I am going to keep bringing it out to see if I can raise anyone’s interest more. Please note while this could be cooling to a lesser degree, this should not be relied upon as a sole cooling device on hot days, and I wouldn’t use this in the sun at all!

Cats aren’t paying any attention to it after I first set it down.
I’ve said a few times today “This toy is a dud”. When I first filled it up and set it on the floor, both cats looked at it cautiously. One pawed under it to see if there was anything hiding there. The other stuck one paw, then the other on the water filled area, then they both walked away. Neither has paid it any attention since. Honestly, I don’t see how this would be a pet item. I could see a toddler being interested in it and patting the fish. If the fish moved on their own, maybe the cats would have some interest in it. That said, it appears to be well made and was easy to fill. Give it to your toddler instead.

    Cats love this water toy
My cats really enjoy playing with this water toy. I filled it with cold water. Having a faucet with a pull out sprayer really helped in filling this without any splashing water all over. Since I used cood water during the summer my cats love to lay on it and then push and punch it with their paws. I have had no issues with leaks or with their claws poking holes. For $17 this makes a fun toy for my cats.

This one is built to last.
This toy is so durable there’s nothing to worry about. She loves playing on it and has worn her self out.
