Good Horizontal Scratcher for Cats Who Prefer Scratching That Way!!!
Some cats like to scratch vertically, but one of my cats likes to scratch horizontally, so she constantly goes for the top of my couch. There are plenty of vertical scratching posts, but this is the first horizontal scratching post I’ve seen (that is a true flat surface and not a curved shape) so I was excited to give it a try and see if it would help me train my stubborn kitty to stop scratching at the top of my sofa. So far, it’s been rough going, but that’s not the fault of the scratching post. It’s my stubborn kitty! I should have found this four months ago! This item comes in four pieces: two wooden end pieces which create a stand and two sisal covered square (or oval if that’s your choice) posts that connect in the middle with a heavy duty screw. Putting it together was easy, although aligning the two square posts so that they create a flat surface was a bit difficult with my arthritic hands. I used my leather garden gloves to manipulate the sisal covered wood blocks easier. The scratcher is not as sturdy as I would have hoped because of its two-piece design, and I can already see it bowing slightly in the middle when both cats sit on it. While my kitties are young (six months) and lighter in weight (5 & 6 pounds) it won’t be a problem, but I’m concerned that as they grow in the next year, it may not be strong enough.A couple of weeks before ordering this scratching post, I purchased a very heavy duty 32” vertical tower scratching post for my other cat, Nori, and the post comes all in one piece (from SmartCat). It cost $10 more than the Aberatail scratcher, but is incredibly sturdy. The shipping container was one long box instead of a smaller square box and the vertical scratcher comes already put together. There is no doubt the vertical scratcher will outlive the horizontal scratcher, but my Poppy kitty likes to scratch horizontally. So, we’ll see. I’ll update this review IF the ABERATAIL scratcher fails. If you don’t hear from me, take it that no news is Good News. Now, all I need to do is train Poppy to use the Aberatail scratcher. Wish me luck!

Large, solid, good construction. Cats love it.
This is a great scratch post. It’s a solid construction and very long / large. Assembly was very easy. The two end supports are attached with two bolts each (wrench included). The post itself comes in two parts and has a single screw in the center that connects them. One criticism is you have to align the post so you have to get exactly a full turn to align them – too little and it’s loose, to much you will over tighten or won’t make it all the way. Initially it did sag in the middle until I was able to get it to complete another turn. I’m also concerned that if someone (e.g. kids) step on it, the middle will bend. It would be better as one solid piece, but I understand why it’s made this way.Nitpicking aside, this is a solid scratch post and well built.

Very nicely made
This is very good quality, with nice-looking wood, strong bolts, and a sturdy scratching surface. Our cats not only enjoy using it for scratching, but they seem to think it makes a good perch for them too! Even our fattest cat (pictured, 18 pounds) can sit on it. The toy on a spring doesn’t seem to interest any of them, however.

Sturdy and good quality scratcher
My cat loves this! I got the square shaped one because the cat you see in this pics is a bit on the large size and I wanted to be sure he would fit on it. It’s easy to put together and includes all you need in the box. It is heavy duty wood and seems to be a solid, good quality scratcher. The cat pictured here is 12 pounds and fits easily on it so the smaller cat does well on it too. Highly recommend this product!

Well designed, sturdy, durable, horizontal design is unique
This is actually a really nicely put together scratcher and the design is pretty unique. My cat seems to really prefer horizontal scratchers to the common vertical ones so this is perfect. It looks like a little balance beam for my cat. Its solidly built and seems very durable with excellently well wrapped sisal rope. The feet are solid and well balanced as well, so my cat has been able to jump all over it without knocking it over or having it fall on its side. Do check the measurements well though since this is a very long scratcher and it needs a good amount of space to sit in. Also double points for the included toy, it has a bell as well as a little stuffed carrot toy that immediately attracted my cat to use it.

Cat scratcher
This cat scratcher was pretty easy to assemble, you really only have to attach the two halves of it together and then attach the legs. This scratcher seems to be pretty sturdy overall. My cat uses this thing for scratching on just fine, and while I did sprinkle some catnip on it to really pique his interest (and maybe a bit for my own amusement lol), I feel as though he would have used it regardless.I would recommend this product to other cat owners.

Easy to assemble, cat loves it
This came together easily and quickly. My cat jumped right up on it and started swinging the toy around. She likes scratching and then sitting on it to rest. It’s more attractive than some other cat scratchers and looks fine in my living room. I expect the sisal will last a good long time.

VERY nice quality and neat design. Cat approved.
She loved it and how she can reach around it when zoomy mode is activated. I’d buy again!
