You must read this one!
Humorous, sweet story with cats acting like cats. Well, maybe like human-esque cats! I felt as though the book felines were as upset with the humans’ lack of intelligence and talent. THAT attitude is very like my own real-life felines! Quick read for those who don’t really have the time to read but who love to read entertaining and fun-filled stories!

Happy hunting!
Patricia Landsbury is what is known in our family as the “cat lady” in her community. Every neighborhood or community seems to have at least one. I don’t think that was ever what Patricia (Pattie) intended: it just happened. One morning a woman showed up on her doorstep with a cat because she’d heard Pattie might take in the stray. Unfortunately the cat had an injured paw so Pattie would get it checked and try to find the owner. The woman was Rebecca Mosby, estranged daughter of Richard Mosby who was going to be out of town for several weeks and wanted her to house sit in his absence. They had recently begun reaching out to one another so he felt comfortable asking her to do this. Pattie wondered why Francine couldn’t watch the house. After all, she WAS his live in fiancé. Rebecca said she was taking the time during his absence to see her son.Pattie took the cat (she’d call Macy) and arranged to have Doctor Knight stop by to check it. He informed her that a white van had run into Francine and killed her. Needless to day there was a lot of commotion at Mosby’s house.OK. You’re now set up to know the background except for a couple of things: 1) Pattie had great observational skills (her son had been a cop), and 2) Pattie had a cat, Jasper, who was basically a feline lie detector: he always seemed to know when someone was lying. Later Macy would show the same tendency. It wasn’t long before Francine’s death was ruled a murder so now the killer must be identified and arrested, and Richard Mosby must be notified. The case is underway, and you are invited to come along on the search for a killer and an absentee father. Pattie and a feline or two will lead the way for you. Hope you enjoy this short story, but can you identify the killer before Pattie and the police do? Happy hunting!

Very simple
Why did I buy this book I was in a cat mood and now I just feel catty . I do like the cats however Patti and other characters seem more than a little simplified.IRENE FROM TN

compact and entertaining mystery
Cats, English village life, and a widowed sleuth make for an entertaining whodunit. Just the right number of characters to move the story along without getting muddled. I’m hoping we will learn more about them, especially the mysterious former policeman son, in the next installments.

Surprising, entertaining, and well-crafted. Cat lovers, don’t miss this mystery!
This book was a total surprise. It’s an engaging story with well-rounded characters. The author definitely knows how to write. She’s clearly a cat lover as well. The plot is simple. I noticed one inconsistency early in the story that led me to suspect the actual villain. However, I wasn’t sure enough to put the book down, and read it in one sitting. When I reached the conclusion, it felt a little like an information dump. Then, I realized the author had shown us the clues all along. She’d just explained them — through the eyes or dialogue of the protagonist — and I took her explanations at face value. It was a clever, effective, and stylish deception!I’m surprised by how much I liked this book. I had low expectations for such a short mystery, especially one that provides so much information about multiple cats, they’re pretty much secondary characters. The author didn’t rush anything. This is a well-constructed story told in just a few pages.Cat lovers will definitely like this book, and probably the others by this author. Mystery lovers may be as impressed as I was, and enjoy it as an entertaining read that can be completed in one sitting.

2 stars is the best I can do
A run of the mill mystery, and not very believable.I have a few issues here:1. What’s the story about Patricia’s son and Officer Downey. Tht was never expanded on…..2. The name of the handy man is first Arthur, and a few pages later changed to AlfredThe writing was OK, but as a rule I don’t do ‘cozy..I’m not keeping this book, and I don’t believe I will read another book by this author. This book was free, I just wasted some time.

Cat Sleuth
I love all of Nancy’s books that I’ve read. I read this one twice. My favorite character is Pattie Lansbury, although I like the other characters, too.If you love animals and mysteries you will love this book.

The story line is good; the plot’s straight-forward, following only the main character’s thinking. There are no side issues or plots going on. The end is a satisfying, surprising twist.I agree with another reviewer that there could be a bit more depth to the characters. There aren’t very many, either. It seems this lady interacts with very few people and everyone is so nice. All in all I’d say it’s a good start and as the series develops the writer will probably expand her characters and their profiles.
