This is a nice padded mat for a dog to rest on. It arrived vacuum packed and you’re supposed to give it a good fluff and wait 24 hours or so for it to reach full fluffiness. Honestly, I don’t think it fluffed much after the first 5 minutes, but that’s okay. It has grippy dots on one side so it doesn’t slide on the floor (I’m using it on carpet so I don’t know how effective that is). The other side is a smooth cooling material. I’m not sure how much cooling a dog could feel through their fur, but obviously dogs do like to lie on a cool surface when it’s hot outside so hopefully they can feel it.I opened the package up yesterday and used the mat to replace a different cooling mat that had reached the end of its life but neither of our dogs showed any interest in it. Later in the evening, I encouraged one of the dogs to try it out and she seemed to like it. With two other bed options in the room (a donut bed and an old pillow that our dogs seem to love), she chose this mat over the other two options (or the floor). Today, we have a visiting dog who seems to be perceived as a rival in our house and the dog that chose the mat last night camped out on the new mat, which I suspect means that she is claiming it so the rival dog can’t have it. I think that is a good sign.I was planning to give 4 stars because I’m not convinced about the cooling aspect of it, but then I tested it against a cooling blanket (for people) that I have that works like a champ and the blanket and mat felt about the same. And… as I was debating that last star, the dog got up, walked down the hall, and then came back and plopped right back on the mat, so I’m going to say that the last star is from the dog herself.UPDATE: My dog and I stand behind our 5-star rating. Any time I happen to step on this mat, two things strike me: how squishy the mat feels underfoot, and how cool the mat feels underfoot. My dog has been parking herself on this mat constantly. Not only that, she did something last night that I haven’t seen her do in the past: she dragged the mat from my home office to my bedroom so she could sleep on it. She wasn’t able to smooth it out but the last photo shows how I found it this morning. She is a 14-year old dog who does not have a history of moving things around the house, so that is saying something!

(Alternate use described at the end)As soon as I brought it in I opened it and set it down on the bed for the kitties to try out. The two pictures with kitties were taken less than five minutes after putting it there for them. Queenie claimed it first, then King came up to check it out and took a corner. Duchess showed up next and took the middle for herself. It’s really nice to have because we have super hot and humid summers where we live.The fabric is smooth and cool to the touch, it actually felt like it had been in the refrigerator for awhile. The seams are well sewn, no gaps or loose threads anywhere. The underside has the little grippy dots to help keep it in place, and the neutral color allows it to fit into almost any color scheme.The memory foam is super comfy. I know this because I had the bright idea to use it under ME in the bed. My husband gets cold easily so I can’t keep the house as cool as I’d like. When I first sat down on it the fabric was so cool it felt like I was sitting in a damp spot. As you lay down you sink a little into the memory foam and it feels great.It stayed cool for a couple of hours, but eventually my body heat won and warmed it up a little. It’s so comfy I’m going to get another one for myself. If I get too warm I’ll just slip it under me to help me cool off, then take it out until next time I need it.This is really good also, if you need some cushioning on your bed, to buy one of these if you’re unable or unwilling to by a large and expensive memory foam topper for your bed. This is the perfect size for an adult torso from shoulders to thighs. I definitely recommend!

My Dog and Cat Love This Mat
My dog loves this mat. He immediately dove on it when I put it on the floor and rolled all over it. I was surprised how cool this is to the touch. It is so cool and comfortable it was hard to not claim it for myself.I bring it out in the yard where my dog gets hot and he goes right to the mat to lie on it. My cats love it as well, so they share it. 🙂 It has a high-quality memory foam padding and an anti-slip backing. I got the mat wet with the hose by accident, and I was surprised to see it dried pretty quickly when I hung it over an outside chair.The ZAKAPAWS Chicute Dog Cooling Mat provides comfort and cooling for my dog, and my cat.
