Great alternative to traditional dog cone to prevent licking of lesions and wounds
I have a senior 14+ years old dog currently incapable of undergoing anesthesia due to health issues. He has developed several wart lesions all over his body. Some of them grow on his paws and bother him, so he attacks them with furious, unstoppable licking and even some biting and nibbling, to the point that they will get significantly swollen, reddish, inflamed and eventually infected. The definitive treatment for those is surgical removal, which is not a possibility for him. We had to put him into a cone to allow for healing of the lesions he has been licking the most, but at his age and health condition, it takes far too long. After 10 days wearing a cone 24 x 7, his life was miserable and he became depressed and stopped engaging in playful and enjoyable life behavior, barely eating and would spend all his days lying around in sadness. We decided to try these sleeves to see if they would prevent him from attacking the lesions while being able to resume a near-normal life experience that meant he could still enjoy his days, walk and play around freely and not be miserable all the time. HIs warts are on his paws rather than on his legs, so a normal-sized sleeve would not work because they are meant to leave the paws out. We measured his size according to the guidelines given and purchased one size bigger (in his case, we purchased small size) hoping that both the full legs as well as the paws would end up inside the sleeve. This works well, but one has to keep in mind that now the dog has to move around with his paws inside the sleeve, stepping on the sleeve from the inside rather than walking directly over surfaces. The sleeve is very, very slippery (of course, it was not designed to allow walking), so we purchased some paw-sized adhesives which are sold as alternatives for protection while walking outside on snow and hot asphalt. We then applied them on the outside of the sleeves in the area where his paws make contact with the ground from the inside. This gave him some reasonable traction and friction back, which enables him to walk around and even run around a little bit on polished hardwood floor, but it certainly is not the same as having his paws available to walk. When we take him for walks outside, we remove the sleeves since while out walking he won’t be attacking his warts anyway. And again, I don’t fault the sleeves for this since they are not designed for this purpose; my wife and I decided to use sleeves which are one size bigger than recommended in hopes of preventing him from reaching warts that are on his paws. If your dog only needs to cover the legs, regular sized sleeves will work just fine and you won’t have to take them out when you take your dog outside. We have purchased a total of 4 sleeves already, 2 single-leg ones (in the beginning, he only had lesions on one side) and 2 dual front-leg ones because now he has lesions on both sides and needs to have both paws under cover. The sleeves are durable, sturdy, high-quality and work as intended. They have been resisting well even again all the scratching that walking over them causes. We have purchased 2 pf each type because after a couple of days of 24×7 use, they smell, so we hand wash and hang one to dry while he wears the other, and we keep alternating between them. I definitely recommend these sleeves as cone alternatives, and I’m happy we found them and could provide my senior dog with a cone alternative that allows him to live with more comfort at such an old age while facing multiple health issues.

    Best Leg Sleeve
This worked really great for several weeks. Eventually, my dog did get aggressive enough to chew the leg off. But, that will happen with anything if your dog is determined enough. The thing I liked most about this is that the legs stayed down and didn’t ride up. This was the issue with other sleeves. I would absolutely buy this again if the need arises.

Well made and does exactly what I need it to.
My dog had a hot spot on his leg that he would not leave alone and everything ai could to keep him off it and then found this. It was easy to put on and stayed on nicley and kept him from licking/ chewing on the affected area. His hot spot is all healed up now and I’d recommend this product for anybody having the same issue.

Sizing is difficult to get right.
SIZING IS DIFFICULT TO GET RIGHT. Old 12 year old Sheltie “Boo” licked his paw until he got a real nasty sore there. So, first I bought a soft collar from Amazon that you blow up, but it was defective and didn’t hold air. The sizing on those are also hard to estimate and he slipped out of it within 15 minutes and I didn’t relish having to open the back door instead of his doggy door anyway. So I orddered this product, measured him from the chart which said he would use an XSmall. It arrived and didn’t even come close to fitting and closure was too short and I couldn’t close it at all. So ordered a second one a size larger An XL, and that didn’t fit either. The closure is way long, so now ordered a 4th one a Large and hope its a perfect fit. The measuring chart is pretty bad. BUT he’s got it on now and is comfortable sleeping in it and walking around just FINE. If you can nail the right size, these can be a Godsend. I couldn’t use the ointment on him until a week after they gave us the meds, and was worried about infection. ALL of those collars out there are just awful for medium size dogs, the cones are torture for dogs as well. In doing research I found out that paw licking can benefit from Omega 3 supplements, so I’ve got both my dogs on good products on Amazon, and already he seems less stressed out. Now I have to go thru returning all these things I bought over $100 desperately trying to find something to cover his wound and not put him through high stress at the same time. THESE ARE GOOD, but you may have to buy a couple to get the right size. Worth the money.

My 8 years old black lab had a Mast tumour removed from her right shoulder area. Worst place possible as far as healing goes. The first few weeks she wore a T-shirt and cone at night. We live in a cold an snowy area and it was very difficult to take her out the relieve herself and stay dry. I tried this recovery sleeve and it was a game changer for me. She is over weight at 37.7 kilos so I ordered an XXL for her. Easy to put on, waterproof legs and covers and protects well. I just had to roll up the legs a bit and it’s working out really well. No more cone, and over all I can tell she is much more comfortable.

I have Northern Inuit. So size of German Shepherd. XXL. Was needed. It’s the first product he can’t remove. Looks goofy but does the job of protecting elbow sores while it heals.

  8. CAROLINA FUENTES

El material es muy resistente y funcionan muy bien, si tu perro como la mía es super ansioso si va a terminar rompiéndolo pero cumple su función. Las mangas vienen bastante amplias.

This is excellent and well made product for front legs…. I’ll plan to buy more for my dog’s hind legs…
