You can often tell how healthy a dog is by coat appearance. Grooming your dog regularly offers clues to her health: It nips potential health problems, like allergies, poor nutrition, parasites, or diseases, in the bud, or at least gives you some early warning about them. Grooming also makes your dog (and you) comfortable socializing. And it stops the spread of dirt, fleas, and germs. Perhaps the biggest benefit to grooming your dog yourself is strengthening your bond with her. It can be a fun time to share, and it helps build trust. DIY Dog Grooming, From Puppy Cuts to Best in Show  by Jorge Bendersky, and foreword by Cesar Milan, will show you how to take the best care of your dog, regardless of breed, temperament, or age. Practical step-by-step photos will take you through everything you need to know to bathe and trim your dog, plus care for her nails, ears, teeth, and more. Learn how to train her to relax and enjoy grooming.
“While you can make excuses not to take your dog to the groomer, you have no reason to make excuses for not doing it yourself any longer.”  –Cesar Millan  Inside you’ll find:- Simple, step-by-step instructions for everything from bathing to brushing.- Practical solutions to common problems like fleas and ticks, dirt and mud.- Creative suggestions for grooming a picture-perfect dog.

    Witty and HELPFUL
If this doesn’t post I will change my AMZN settings! This book helped me understand why “tips” from prof groomers were harmful! Either they did not want to lose the business or they didn’t know what they were doing ! This book even better than YouTube horrors!

This is book is A must-have for first time dog owners or those owners that have dogs with long fur. The book is so easy to use and includes A complete visual guide to how to properly cut and maintain your dog’s fur. The book is filled with useful tips how to care for your dog, including A special section about using aromatherapy. I could not be happier with this book and would happily recommend this book to anyone who has dogs.

Excellent Instructional Resource For Grooming Your Dog!
We stopped using our mobile groomer..way too expensive. We decided to do it ourselves. This book told us everything we would need as far as tools. We bought the best clippers we could to do the job right! When we started with the first dog, we had a general idea of what we we’re doing. Thanks to this book, we knew what to do, how to do it and in what order. It has instructions for different kinds of cuts and for different types of hair. They leave out nothing…from trimming nails to sanitary cuts to expressing anal glands Yuck! If you’re a novice and are going groom your dog yourself, this book is invaluable. Grooming is a skill, one that we’ve not mastered yet! It is hard work and takes a long time the first few times. But it’s worth it to not see my dogs tremble when the groomer shows up. We give them tender loving care and they trust us. I feel close to my dogs when I groom them. My husband and I do it together. He works on one side while I work on the other! I highly recommend getting a grooming table with a rubber mat. And a place to hang a harness. We use the harness that goes around the neck and right before the back legs. Then they can’t sit down! We bought our table from Amazon for an extremely good price. The legs fold under for easy storage. So far, it’s been a rewarding experience and we’re glad we did it! Plus, now we have some extra cash!

Perfect for Beginners or a Refresher course
I groomed many many years ago and recently decided to start doing my 2 girls due to having groomer related vet bills! I needed a refresher course and this book was perfect! I’m quite rusty but the girls came out looking really good ( mini poodel and a bichpoo)! The pics with the where to clip/scissor are spot on. His instructions are easy to understand and quite thorough. If you follow what he says and practice a bit of course, you WILL have a pup that looks like it came from a high end salon!

    DIY Dog Grooming
After reading this book, I decided that I am completely ill-equipped to groom my own dogs. It had way more information than I needed and wanted. I live in a remote area and have a hard time finding groomers to “shear” my long-haired dog for the warm summer months. She feels so much better with that coat gone and I thought, maybe, I could do that myself, but it turns out that the process is much more involved and complicated…dangerous or unhealthy for my pet…for me to tackle it myself. I think if someone wanted to go into the grooming business, this book would provide all the information, directions and tips you could ever want!

    Detailed instructions
This book has been incredibly helpful in grooming our Snorkie (Yorkie mix). When we adopted our dog we were told he would need to be groomed….we just didn’t know how often!!! This dog grows fur like crazy! So we decided to DIY. The book gives very specific directions on a basic utility cut as well as fancy cuts. The first haircuts were pretty funny but we just kept reviewing the book and working at it. Now that we do this on a regular basis our dog is much happier without the extreme long fur-short fur cycle. The book shows the Schnauzer beard cut which was helpful for us. If you are going to DIY get the book and be patient with the process. Our dog loves being groomed now!!

    Great for beginners
Easy to follow instructions with nice pictures. Reading this and watching a few YouTube videos will help me get started with grooming my Shih Tzu. I wished he had a recommended list of vendors for supplies though especially for the cordless clippers and the scissors he used in the book. The hints he gave for using household products in a bin dwere very helpful.I will continue to use my groomer though but less often since it is very hard to do my dog’s ears and nails. Even the vet has to have 3 people holding him down for pulling his ear hairs and he is only 12 lbs! DIY grooming is great for between groomer visits for us.
