DIY Dog Grooming at Home: How to Wash, Trim, Clean & Clip Your Dog
Do you want to learn how to safely and effectively bathe your dog at home? Do you want to save money on expensive groomers? Do you simply want to learn how to brush your dog’s fur?
If you are new to owning a dog, then you may find yourself intimidated by the idea of grooming your own dog. While it may seem like a complicated and tedious process, there’s nothing to be afraid of. You just need to learn all of the steps involved and develop a process that works for you and your dog. Then your grooming sessions will start to go smoothly.
In my book, DIY Dog Grooming at Home: How to Wash, Trim, Clean & Clip Your Dog, I will show you how to wash, dry, and trim your dog’s fur and clip your dog’s nails. I will also show you how to safely clean around your dog’s more sensitive areas, such as their eyes, ears, tail, and snout.
Why would I be an authority on this subject? Why take my word for it? Well, I have worked with animals my entire life. I have always had dogs while growing up in rural North Carolina. Where I lived as a kid, the “groomer” was my next-door neighbor who taught me how to bathe my dogs. When I grew up, I had a job as an animal care attendant for the local vet. At that time, the local vet would make house calls but also had animals for boarding and overnight treatments and observation. I worked for that vet until he retired a few years ago.
I have a lifetime of hands-on experience. I will never forget the first time I had to bathe a skittish cat! I swore after that I would focus on dogs because I’m more of a dog person anyway.
In this book, I’m going to teach you how to properly groom your dog at home, and you’ll realize that the process isn’t as complicated as you may have originally thought. But first, let’s look at why you should even groom your dog in the first place.
Grooming your dog at home isn’t as difficult as it may seem and you shouldn’t feel intimidated to avoid doing it on your own. With some research and advice from professionals, you’ll be able to take care of all your dog’s grooming needs from the comfort of your own home.

Misleading title
The subtitle says ‘How to wash, trim, clean and clip your dog’, but the book is basically a list of product and tool descriptions, plus annoyingly repetitive lectures about a dog’s emotions and comfort. I bought the book to learn HOW to use clippers to cut my dog’s hair (she’s a goldendoodle) and HOW to achieve the various styles such as Teddy Bear. There are no such instructions – just very brief descriptions of the styles. I’m keeping it for the few practical excerpts such as how to trim around the eyes, but would not recommend the book.

I LOVED THIS BOOK- Made life easy for my Goldendoodles
I loved this book, I have two Goldendoodles and One BernieDoodle and I loved how informative this book was about pros and cons of grooming and exactly how to do it. I loved the introduction and learned a lot by reading it and obviously my dogs/ my bank account benefited greatly by reading this book. I will be saving hundreds of dollars in the long run, if not more. Dealing with groomers has been a nightmare for me and all drama. Then it costs a lot of money!:/ learn from this book and do it yourself!

I am the confidence I need to become my dog’s groomer
Very informative! DIY Dog Grooming by Lisa Yamada is a great read if you are looking to do more dog grooming yourself, even if it’s just brushing teeth or brushing their coats. This book covers head to paws on dogs and even covers differences that require different products and approaches in grooming different breeds. The book is also separated nicely to cover topics in depth including nails, teeth, trimming and cutting fur, and products and tips that will come in handy as you get started. My one critique is some of the vocabulary that a dog groomer would say and know may not be what the average person would use to refer to something like a specific part or area of the dog. There are even a few grammatical mix ups. For example, have flour with you, not flowers, to help if you cut the quik of your dog’s nails to stop bleeding. Aside from a little extra research when I reach one of those words just to make sure I am understanding it fully, I am confident in taking grooming my dog into my own hands.

I learned very little from this book. Wishing I’d read more about it before buying. Want one with instructional photos. Expected ‘step by step guide’ would show photos as aid, but no.Don’t waste your money on this book
