Keep your dog cool and comfortable!
My Cardigan Welsh Corgi does not like to be hot, and when it’s really warm, my Whippet doesn’t like it either. Both benefit so much from their Chillz Dog Cooling Mats. When we travel for agility trials in the summer, I make sure my Corgi has a Chillz mat in his crate for a comfortable night’s sleep. Both dogs like the cool and comfort provided when their Chillz mats are in their crates at agility trials. Most crate mats are plush or furry, and that’s great in the winter, but in warm weather, they need cushion and cool and with these mats they get both. They feel better and perform better, thanks to their Chillz Dog Cooling Mats.

    My Chow loved it
I bought it for my chow chow so he’d have somewhere cooler to sleep on during hotter nights. HE LOVED IT and always went to it to sleep however, it did break after a year.

    Glorified pee pads at BEST
Less than impressed honestly. I live in Southern California, where it’s hot as hell on the regular, and this summer, it has been in the 90s-100s pretty regularly. I have two pugs, and not only do they overheat easily with all of their rolls, one of them can’t use her back legs and get water or cool off as easily as the other, so I figured this would be the perfect solution for her.I ended up ordering two because the sizes were funky. I ordered a large for our handicapped dog, and it fit perfectly in her dog bed (i don’t know the dementions of the bed, but it’s an XL dog bed, usually for large dogs). I noticed when I got it that the pad wasn’t cold, or even mildly cool to the touch, so I attempted to put it in the freezer, which was a mistake; it expanded and I accidently broke a part of my freezer drawer (I’m not knocking a star off for that obviously, since it was my own mistake, but I want to make sure people know what will happen!). Overall, the pad still didn’t seem cool once it thawed either. We normally have to put ice packs on our handicapped pug when she overheats, and I still find myself doing that just as often as before. We still keep it on her bed out of habit, since it also stops her from peeing into the dog bed, but it isn’t cold in the slightest, so now it’s really just an overpriced pee pad.I also purchased an XL pad because of the great reviews. Our other dog normally likes to cool down on the tile floor in our kitchen, but she is also old and can’t go down the stairs to the kitchen, so I figured I’d keep it on the carpet. She seemed totally uninterested in the thing. I’d have to bribe her with treats just to sit on the mat, but that was the only time she’d go on it. I even put her water bowl on the mat, and she’d rather whine in front of the mat for water than to go over it to drink. I’m not sure if it’s the texture of the mat on her nails or if she’s just picky or just doesn’t see the point, but she has zero interest in it. I attached a photo of her napping, and no matter how much I tried to get her to nap or even sit on the mat, she wanted nothing to do with it. So now I have these two pads that are basically a waste of money. I feel like if you live somewhere that’s already cold, the mats will also be cold. But if you live anywhere that gets warmer than 70°, it’s useless. Pretty disappointed, as our family was looking forward to finding some temperature relief for our dogs.

    Cool and Squishy; Great Longevity!
This is my dog’s second cooling mat and so far we’re loving it. She had a Green Pet Shop mat before but it dried up in under a year. We haven’t had this pad too long but I’m optimistic. This pad is much squishier than the old one and seems cooler to the touch. They’re hard to directly compare at this point but the old one never seemed that cold to me and the Hugs mat is quite chilly. Like any gel pad, it heats up after awhile but my dog is usually asleep at that point and doesn’t seem to notice. I would suggest buying more than one if you are in really hot weather. They cool back down fairly quickly but the dog has to get off of them to let it do that. One note- my dog likes to spend the morning practicing Downward Facing Dog pose while arooing at me to get up. Her nails are a little hard on this mat and she tore a little hole in the cover. The gel inside didn’t make a mess but it’s quite moist so I quickly patched the hole with some box tape to avoid drying out the mat. Hopefully that will be the last rip!Update July 2016: The pad was still doing great but sadly our puppy got it and chewed a chunk out of the cover. The hole was more than box tape could cover so we pitched it. Interestingly, it did not make any kind of mess when thoroughly chewed up. Personally, I think the low reviews for lack of durability are unfair- this isn’t designed to be chew proof. It’s a great product and Ruby is very grateful for two day shipping, as she can’t wait for the new one to come!

EDIT: Mat has failed. Original review: Overall a pretty nice mat for the purpose
EDIT: After several months of use, this mat has failed. It got sliced open from the dog’s nails, I assume, even though the nails are kept pretty smooth and short. The half of the mat with the cut dried out and lost it’s cooling effect. Shortly before this, I tried washing off the mat with a damp rag and leaving it outside to dry for half a day in the shade with a breeze. Mildew somehow grew on the mat in that short period and I was never able to scrub it off. We threw it out. I don’t think I’d purchase this again.Original Review:It really does feel cool for a pretty long period of time. My dogs don’t seem really “drawn” to it, so I don’t think they recognize an extreme benefit to the mat, however when I place it directly in their fave bed, they do seem to stay cooler for quite a while.I would be careful about stepping on it yourself, or if you have an extremely heavy dog, since when I stepped on it accidentaly, I could feel the gel inside kind of squashing out of place, and in other reviews people have said that the gel disintegrated or got chunky when the mat was stepped on. I don’t think my 50 lb dogs harm it at all, but I could see a 100 lb+ dog possibly doing damage over time. The outer material seems pretty sturdy and we’ve had no scratches or tears over the couple weeks we’ve been using it. Overall a pretty nice mat for the purpose.

Product is as described. Does get chilly. Only trouble is my dog won’t lay on it, but my 12 year old uses it to cool off.

No le gustó a mi perro, no la usa

Good quality however it can be slippery on tiles.

  9. Suhnita Robinson

Brilliant product, does what it says it does, my dog wasn’t interested at first but I persevered and got him to lay on it for long enough for it to start drawing the heat from his body, (about 30 seconds to a minute) now he goes straight to it when he gets too hot, wish I could get a human size one! Well worth the money.
