No batteries are needed to get the kitties up and moving and get a little bonding time with them too. There is crinkle paper inside the snakes that makes the lightest crinkle sound and it adds a little weight so they are easy to maneuver and wiggle around to get the kitties excited. I have some catnip spray to put on these to make them interesting. Wiggle along the floor drape over the chairs or tease them in the air. My cats have really had fun with these. You get a three pack of colorful silly snakes with puff ball eyes and a tongue the cats can not resist.
