This feral cat shelter has been the perfect thing
A feral tomcat had been hanging around since last summer. He likes the food here and that’s why he has been sticking around. As it was getting colder I was concerned the little fellow might freeze so I looked at various shelter options and decided to try this one out. I set it up just outside my back entrance. That’s the area where I feed him. Most feral cats will not allow you to touch them. Fortunately, this guy trusts me and he’s friendly although he clearly has zero interest in becoming an indoor cat. After I set up the shelter I wondered how I was going to get him to actually use it?Well, I picked him up and tried to push him face first into the shelter through the flaps. He did not like that and burst right back out again. I wondered, how could I show him that hey, this is a shelter for you, buddy? That’s when I figured out the best way to do it. I placed him in the shelter rear end first instead of face first and that gave him an extra few seconds to check out the interior first before bursting back out through the flaps. At that point I was feeling more confident he might use it. I plugged in the heating pad and kept checking it to see if it was heating up. It was cold out already and according to the instructions the pad will adjust to outside temperatures and heat accordingly. But it was not heating. At all. I kept checking it over a 48 hour period and no luck, the pad was clearly not heating up. So I contacted the vendor and asked about getting a replacement heat pad. They replied right away and agreed to send out another one. Which they did. After installing the replacement pad I tested it and found it was heating up. After that, I waited. A few mornings later I peered out my back window and I could see the feral cat peeping out from between the flaps of the shelter. He’s smart and he had figured it out on his own. He’s staying safe and warm in there during the night.I’m satisfied with this shelter and I was impressed by the vendor’s quick resolution of the problem. It was easy to assemble. It only took a few minutes to get it all set up.UPDATE: Well, it is over a year later and it is winter and quite cold. I have this shelter set up in the same place it was last winter. The feral tomcat who I have been feeding now for a couple of years still shows up every 3 or 4 days to be fed. And in this really cold weather he is once again using this shelter which is still working just fine. Very pleased about that!~

    Love it-cats love it
I got the Large size. 3-4 cats, depending on their size, could fit & stay warm. (Providing they get along). Nice & roomy. I got this for ferals to use, one being a kitten. They used it up until another, larger male feral took it over. He uses it all the time, hangs out at the entrance/exit so no one else can use it. I just bought another one for the others.Thank God for credit card points! It is very sturdy & the cover is nice.Assembly was easy.It is also big & sturdy enough to place a cat bed or other cat hangout on top for warmer weather. My ferals loved sleeping up there on a big old pillow.Drawback: The entrance is nice but my cats would not go inside until I used a couple clips, like potato chip bag clips, to keep it open a bit. There is not a window or back exit for them to use. Cats prefer to see outside or else they feel trapped. My feral hangs out & sleeps right at the entrance.I have mine facing the opposite direction of normal wind flow. When the cold winds, snow & ice come he/they will be nice & warm & dry. It is also on my covered deck next to my house.I highly recommend this product!

    Good quality cat house
I’m sure it would be wonderful to keep our outside cat warm but I can’t get him to get in it. I’ve tried pushing him in it, but he won’t go. Plus the opening is kind of small for a big cat like he is to try to force in it. He’s got a heated outdoor mat but the house would be so much better. So right now it’s just sitting on our enclosed front porch.

    Great Heated Cat Shelter
This cat shelter is very easy to assemble and works great. I love the movable window. It took about two weeks to get the outdoor feral cat to use it but don’t give up. Today in New Jersey it’s 44° cold and rainy, and she finally went in the shelter. I kept putting cat treats in there to get her to go in and she finally did. I also used foam insulation on the bottom, then old throw pillow insulation then the heater pad and a towel over it, which is working great. It’s just an extra layer or two to keep her away from the cold floor especially in the winter time. I also tucked the pillow insulation around the perimeter, inside the cage area. It makes me so happy that she’s warm and dry and will be comfortable and safe throughout the winter. Only con is I wish they had another window flap. cats don’t like feeling trapped with only one way out.

    Absolutely Amazing!!
I’ve been taking care of 3 feral cats since they were kittens and their colony left. They haven’t seen winter yet so I started stressing out. I made them a couple plastic bin houses but they don’t stay too warm. I did so much research on heated houses and landed on this one and wow I’m so glad I did. This was SUPER easy to set up and the pad that comes with it is so nice and warm. I do have a covered porch but I have no outlet so I had to raise the house up a little so I can run the cord into my house. The heating pad only turns on when it feels pressure which is awesome that it’s not running non stop. The waterproof cover is nice and thick. I don’t think they’re using it yet but it makes me feel a lot better that there is a warm place for them if they need it. Also, it’s definitely big enough for all 3 if they cuddle up.
