As a proud cat dad, I can’t recommend this product enough! Initially, I thought it was just an unnecessary expense and held off on buying it for years. However, after using it for a few weeks, my perspective has completely changed. This product significantly reduces litter box odors, whether it’s full or mostly empty. It can comfortably handle waste from two cats for up to a week, although I wouldn’t suggest pushing it that far due to hygiene considerarion.Overall, this is an excellent product that’s simple to set up. It makes cleaning up after my cats much easier. It’s lightweight, and the lid is durable. Plus, it comes with a handy litter scoop and a scoop caddy that attaches to the side for convenient storage. If you’re a cat owner, do yourself a favor and get this!!!

Litter Genie is a cat litter disposal system that makes is easier and more convenient to scoop your cat’s litter box frequently. More frequent scooping keeps litter box smells to a minimum which, in turn, makes it less likely that your cat will poop or pee somewhere outside the litter box.The way it works is this: You take a Litter Genie refill, which is basically a very long tube of plastic that is scrunched up into a plastic holder, and install it under the snap down refill holder (which is very much like a toilet seat with a lid.) There are directions included with the Litter Genie that are really good and show you exactly how to install the refill. You will be pulling down at least a foot of the film and then tying a knot in the bottom.Once you get the refill part installed, here’s how to use it. When you’re ready to scoop your cat’s litter box, open the top lid. Scoop the poo and clumped litter into the toilet seat-like opening. When the upper area becomes full, grasp the plastic flange that is located on the front toward the middle and push down on the little button (located in the flange) while pulling the flange toward you. If you look through the top opening, you will see that pulling the flange releases the soiled litter into the bottom area of the Litter Genie. When it has passed through to the bottom, release the flange and the separator will snap back into place. This separator serves as an odor barrier so that days worth of dirty litter can be stored in the Genie without the foul smell.When the bottom becomes full, you’ll need to empty it. The way you go this is to push the button on the middle front of the Genie that is located just beneath where the Genie is divided in half. Pushing the button releases the top half of the Genie so you can fold it back. You can then see the full plastic bag at the bottom. Just pull down more film from the top and then slide it into the cutter located just above the hinge in the back. It is clearly marker CUTTER. You want to be sure to leave enough film at the top of the full bag after you cut so that you can easily tie a knot to close it for disposal. Tie the knot and then lift the full bag out of the Genie. Finally, pull down about a foot of fresh film and tie a knot at the bottom. That’s it.The Litter Genie comes with the Genie itself, one refill, one litter scoop, the scoop holder you hang off the side of the Genie and the instruction manual. The scoop is a good quality, plastic one but I already have a metal scoop I really like and it fits perfectly in the holder.I bought a Litter Genie a couple of years ago for my daughter, who had 3 cats at the time. She lives in a city where they have banned the plastic grocery bags, which she had previously been using. This was such a huge improvement for them over the old method because one of her cats had a health issue that caused him to make the smelliest poo – several times a day. Litter Genie made it easy to scoop immediately after he pooped and it truly kept the smell confined to the bottom of the Genie. They are still using it every day and it still performs great.I have 5 cats and I thought one Genie wouldn’t be able to keep up with all of the daily waste. Then someone mentioned the silver one was on sale for ~$10, so I bought 3 for my house. (It’s more of a battleship grey color than silver.) I keep one downstairs where I have 2 litter boxes and I keep the other two upstairs, where I have 4 litter boxes. This is working very well for me. With 3 Genies, I’m only having to empty them about once a week.Of course, the biggest expense is the refills. Personally, I think they are way overpriced – kinda like ink cartridges for printers. So this is a major thing you want to consider before buying Litter Genie. Looking for them on sale and on eBay and buying whenever you find a good deal can mitigate the costs. Also, you CAN use tall kitchen trash bags as a substitute for the refills. It does work and the Genie still keeps the smells trapped in the bottom, but it’s not quite as convenient. Still, I like knowing I can do this just in case I run out of Genie refills and haven’t ordered more.If you have a litter box in your house that must be scooped, you might like the Litter Genie as much as I do.

How did I live without this?
How did I live with cats and litter boxes without this forever?! No joke, may seem unnecessary… But this is one of those little “life hacks” … Make your life easier, make your house smell better things. It’s quick and easy to set up, (tie a tight knot on the bag!) and it’s easy to remove. And even better, it’s sooo easy to put the used cat litter into. The little slide door is amazing at keeping the smell away and the lid closes nice and tight.My cats… They reek, they could stink up the whole house… Now with the genie… I don’t notice them at all unless they just went!Yes I’m geeking out over a “cat genie” … But hey, it works, it works well, and it has made my life easier, my house smell better, and ultimately me in a better mood because of it.

Flimsy material/construction, but still functional/worth it
I have four cats. I got two of these. One was from Chewy, though, because their sales and customer service are way better. I don’t even know why I buy from Amazon. I should really just go full Chewy.Anyway, I do like these. Even though the build quality leaves a bit to be desired, it’s nice that there’s not much assembly required. It looks better than what I was previously using (a half broken, little garbage can) and it is able to hold more. I do think it blocks the smell and I like that it takes about five days before I have to empty it. Before this, I was emptying my little garbage can everyday. Sometimes twice a day. So, it’s a huge improvement.I’d say it’s a decent value. The price does reflect the overall quality. Again, it’s a little flimsy. I gave it four stars because it does stay together. It’s just that each of them have a minor defect. One of them was a pain to get to close. The little button in the middle of the pail, where it folds open, wasn’t aligned correctly. So, that took some finagling. The other one, the lid doesn’t sit perfectly flat. It still closes well enough, but I might get something to fasten it more securely/tightly.I still consider these a good purchase and I would get them, again… from Chewy 😂. I’d also recommend them to other cat owners. They do have warranty, too, so there’s that.

2-month review: Works like a charm. Makes cleaning the litter box just easy enough that I actually do it every day.I was concerned about the cost of refills and the plastic waste that generated, but I feel those concerns were unwarranted. I have one 10lb cat, I scoop the litter every day, and the first cartridge lasted just over two months. The cartridge refills on amazon.ca are currently priced at $26.52 for a pack of three (using Subscribe & Save), which based on my experience so far will last six months or more. Cost per month: $4.42. I believe that is great value for the ease of use and complete lack of odour.As for environmental concerns, I think the amount of plastic used per month is actually less than using an ordinary plastic bag, because the litter can sit in the Genie until it is full. No smell whatsoever. The plastic cartridge casing is also recyclable.I am very pleased. My expectations were far exceeded. I did not expect this to be actually odourless, and it really is. I have no complaints whatsoever. Use a good clumping litter, give the Genie a quick wipe-down every now and then, and forget about the smell of cat waste. Una disculpa que se mancha en el video jaja, es increíble y bastante fácil de usar y limpiar. De verdad que vale mil la pena tenerlo porque si te ayuda a evitar los olores fuertes de los desechos de los garitos. Tengos dos gatito y dos areneros entonces siempre fue un rollo limpiar y usar mil bolsitad de basura así como tener un bote aparte, aun así el olor era fuerte pero con este Genie es impresionante la cantidad de desechos que caben en el bote y que no genere olores. Limpio como 7 veces el arenero seguidos y el bote aún sigue sin llenarse, ya después corto la bolsa y saco, acumula muy buena cantidad. 👌

I was sceptical about whether or not this thing would work. I used to use plastic grocery bags and, well it wasn’t working so I decided to take the leap and boy am I glad I did.The smell in the house is so much better, once the waste goes in you don’t have to worry about it more than once a week. The one single complaint I do have is the price of the refills. The litter locker ones work perfectly for a fraction of the litter genie refills.Which begs the question about which is a better deal and I have to be honest I don’t know. I know that I love my litter genie, I know that I will never live without such a contraption in my life.
