10 reviews for PetSafe Happy Ride Folding Pet Ramp, Portable Lightweight Dog Ramp for Cars, Trucks & SUVs

Impressive and Highly Functional Pet Tool
So far, I have really enjoyed this pet ramp. It’s lightweight and portable, which makes it superb for carrying around. The non-slip surface enhances my pet’s safety, and I absolutely love it. I feel it well-suited for large vehicles because of its 62-inch length. Plus, it’s so easy for pets to use independently. The folding feature is also a great addition for easy storage. All in all, it’s an impressive and highly functional tool for pet owners.

    Excellent choice!
This ramp truly is great. I love that it’s very sturdy, it was a very non-skid surface, it is super easy to fold and unfold, no struggle whatsoever, and this middle-aged woman can pretty easily lift and carry and move this ramp with one hand. My only downside was that I intend to use this item in the relatively small area of our TV room so the dogs can get on top of their crate, and this does take up a larger footprint than I wanted. In a larger home, or a larger room, or just about any other use I can imagine, this is the top-notch option.

    Does the Job well.
Got it today, and training of the dog to use it took a whooping 5 minutes. Must already have a dog that trusts you and is already trained. Otherwise good luck. Whatever you do, DO NOT FORCE THE DOG TO USE IT, the dog must learn how to use it at its own pace, once this is done it becomes second nature to them. And don’t tease the dog by not taking it around the block at least to let them enjoy getting in the car…think of it as a reward instead of stuffing their faces with unhealthy treats. The product isn’t as light weight as people may lead you to believe, but compared to other ramps this is light. This ramp weights in at approx 15 lbs. The bulk of the unit coupled with no side handle makes it awkward to carry. A good handy man can fix that in 5 minutes. It has rubber nubs, I wouldn’t call them feet, but they do offer some slip protection on the vehicle. Probably a good idea to kneel next to it so if there is an issue you are right there to prevent any mishaps. This provides added confidence for the dog so they don’t seem to be up in the air without any side protection.Overall a good solid product. Glad I got it.UPDATE: Just got back from a month long trip to San Diego, and this unit performed great. Fast and easy to set up. Storage is a bit tricky, so make sure you have room or a secure location for it. One important safety notification is to make sure any part of you is clear of the closing section of the ramp, because it is unforgiving if any part of you is in it when it closes. Big ouchy if that happens. Dog did a great job using it, however, the dog did seem to have issues with its paws on the sandpaper surface on steeper inclines. Not sure if the dog was uncomfortable or in discomfort going down the ramp, but the dog jumped off the unit. Didn’t have a problem going up at the same incline, so pay attention to this if you have an older dog. If you happen to get sand or dirt in the small chambers of the unit, a few simple clam shell claps together will clear any debris quickly and easily. Didn’t try this myself, but even though it may say it supports upto 250lbs., you need to remember this is 250 lbs of a dog on 4 legs which distributes its weight over a larger area than a human on 2 legs. I can see where a child may want to use it, but I have a feeling that the centralized weight of a human child might cause this unit to collapse or buckle, so I recommend not allowing children to get on this unit.

  4. Ready Player 1

Does the job but not for taller vehicles.
When I first got this (two weeks ago) I was impressed with the build quality, structure and easy of assembly. Its a little heavy, cumbersome and I imagine that it might be tricky to put into place while keeping your dog at bay – but nothing you wouldn’t be prepared for.The two problems I had with this are: 1. Dimensions. Its too narrow and too short for my German Shepherd. It makes for a steep ramp for my small car and seems completely impractical for our SUV or truck.2. The grip paper started peeling off after only two weeks. All that being said, there don’t seem to be many alternatives that are better so Im going to stick with this. Just be aware of what you are getting.

Good product at a good price
I was worried about what kind of ramp I could find for my 76 pound pregnant Golden Retriever that would be safe, that she could learn to use easily, and that would be light enough for me to move back and forth to the car from the garage where I would store it. I read the reviews here and on other sites. I chose this one because women frequently complained that others were too heavy to lift. I am quite plesed with this one. It folds compactly, has a little plastic widget that holds it together when folded so it doesn’t come apart unexpectedly. It is lightweight solid plastic so there are no cumbersome metal structures, yet it is certainly sturdy enough to support Tibbie’s weight. The ramp has a sandy surface so she doesn’t slip on it, and she seems to feel secure on it. I like the angles on the ends – one for the driveway surface that glides her down to the ground, the other for the car which seems to grip the floor of the Murano, although it has no hooks or features that would not make it universal. When it arrived I laid it out on the living room floor for a while so she could smell it, then I put it in a doorway to a room where she had to walk on it. It didn’t spook her. Then I put her on a leash and had her walk the length of it in the doorway, and rewarded her for doing so. Then I put one end on a low padded bench and had her use it to get up to her couch. She liked that. Then the next day, after repeating all of these, I set it up for the car – and she was in like a champ. I keep her on a leash when we use it, as I don’t want her jumping off halfway, but she gets it. I’m happy, she’s happy and safe.

The best. Worth spending the extra for the better surface. Have a blind 12 yr old golden retriever and learnt to use it in 2 goes.

It’s not cheap but it met my needs… it’s lightweight, solid and, folded up, it can fit in the footwells of the back seat. The dog’s learned to go up and down, and as he’s gotten older it’s become much more necessary… I don’t think it’s ever good for a dog to jump out of the truck and land full-body weight on their front paws like they do
