Cats love it; major assembly issues
Ok, I have such mixed feelings over this cat scratcher. My two young cats (aged 1 and younger) actually really enjoy it, which is a major win. I haven’t had it set up long, but already I see my cats starting to stretch their paws on it (especially when I use the provided toys near the scratcher to peek their interest). The toys that come with it are simple, yet great. My cats instantly loved them. The cats also like laying on the platform, or going inside the little cubby part and climbing through the holes. The problem with this item is with the assembly. The materials are simple; there are issues with material warping and screw stripping; and following the instructions to a T will lead to issues such as screws being pulled out of the wood (in my expedience steps 4 and 5 need to be switched). There is also no way to attach the toy mouse to the scratcher. For the price, it’s not a horrible item, but it could definitely be better. Some things to know:-this items arrives as several smaller pieces that need to be assembled- try not to over tighten, or even over-turn, screws to prevent stripping- complete step 5 before step 4 (I did it according to the instructions/the other way around and screws were completely pulled out of the wood)- have wood glue handy to add to the screws to help hold them in place (figuring they’ll strip at some point)- have scissors handy to trim the sticky Velcro strips on the back of the scratching material. They were cut too long and overlapping on the ones I received.- be prepared to have to find your own creative way to attach the mouse to the scratcherThe rubber feet that are provided work really well. I recommend adding them. Also, I really appreciate that there is a cutout on the back of this scratcher to allow it to fit around trim boards when placed against a wall.

    Utterly useless junk
This item is garbage, do not purchase. My dad and I both tried together put it together but it just kept falling apart. Major manufacturing issues. Even tried to add wood glue and putty to no avail. Useless. Beware

    Pricey temporary scratcher
Total pain to put together. I got the email about using toothpicks or wood glue for the loose screws after I already assembled it and was too difficult to take it all apart at that point. Lasted eight days before the cats had it coming apart. Too expensive for me for a toy for a week.

  4. Customer Review

Our cat loves it & we like how it looks, although we had a few issues with assembly
I appreciate that this came with a screwdriver, which worked well for me, and there was enough hardware to get the job done. The included instructions were easy to follow, even for me, someone who is terrible with her hands and slow at assembling anything.I was timing myself to see how long it would take to do this by myself and it was going pretty well until I got to step 5. This is where you are supposed to slide the back boards (“E”) into the frame you’ve just made in step 4, but the holes on both sides for one of the rods was drilled right next to the indent you’re supposed to slide the back boards into. I had to back track and take the framework apart a little from step 4, place the boards as needed into their slots, then screw the frame back together around them. This was able to get the boards in, but that last rod was still too close and therefore I wasn’t able to screw it in.At this point, it had only taken me about 40 minutes, even with the unscrewing and redoing, and remember, I’m pretty slow at this stuff, so I suspect that most people with no issues will only need maybe 45 minutes for putting this whole thing together. I had to then grab my husband and brainstorm what to do. We ended up using some wood glue and clamps to get the last rod put into place. After that, we were able to screw the whole back board framework into the cubicle base with no issues.Sadly, the little included ball is a tad bit too big for the rolling space provided for it. You can see in my video that it can’t roll freely unless I use my fingers to sort of flex the wood piece (“F” from the instructions) to give it a little extra room. All of the pieces that make up this space have slots they slide into so it’s not that I put them together too closely. I did try to find a different ball to go in there, but I guess cat toy balls are mostly the same size because all 3 of the other types I found around the house were all about the same size.Regardless of these issues we had while putting it together, we did get it assembled and my cat was interested before I was even done with it. I’ve already caught him playing with the mouse, using the back scratching pad, and hanging out in the bottom cubicle. Since cats can be so finicky and particular, I’m happy that he’s using it. It looks nice all put together so we’re ultimately satisfied with it.

Very attractive and scratchable. Lots of cat surfaces. Good assembly directions.
Definitely an improvement on scratching posts or poles. It went together easily enough. The most difficult part was lining up the boards for the base. There are dowels on the side pieces, but the upper and lower shelves fit into grooves. It all has to be aligned correctly together before the dowels are screwed down. Once that is done, the rest is simple. The directions are good and it comes fairly well assembled from the get-go. The scratch pads are Velcro and on and can be removed if needed. It really does look like a little chair, so if you have children in the house they may try to use it as such. It isn’t meant for that and I have no idea how much weight it will hold, so be aware. If you have little ones, unless they’re really little and really light, you probably want to give them a warning about sitting on it. The entirety is right around 33 inches tall, so a bit under 3 feet, and 13 and a half (ish) inches wide. it’s good, thick, attached sisal that won’t shred easily, and it comes with a little mouse on a stretchy string with a bell that my cats have thus far ignored, but they’ve ignored it in that special cat way that says, “I see it, and I see that you want me to pay attention to it, so I won’t. Just wait until you’re out of the house.”Cats! But I do like it. I like the way it looks. I like that it looks more like furniture than a cat scratching post or even a cat tree. It’s much more subtle and it looks less intrusive in the room. And despite the ignoring it, they do actually seem to like it. See picture.
