    One simple addition…
…in adding clay clumping litter in a ~7:1 (7 parts Skoon to 1 part clay clumping by volume) ratio to make this a clumping litter makes this the best litter I’ve used. For reference I am using the Petco generic unscented clumping clay litter.I have two cats. I’ve tried many cat litters and the main problem has always been tracking. “World’s best” cat litter (the one made from corn) is great as a cat litter but got everywhere. Clay clumping litter was better at tracking but was like glue and stuck to our cat’s paws.Come Skoon. Skoon doesn’t track hardly at all. It is super good at this and the cats love digging in this. Apparently it is very easy on their paws. Can be a bit dusty, but that cleans, nothing like picking out litter from the couch upstairs (I invested in a dust buster specifically because I couldn’t relax on the couch because it was constantly peppered in cat litter particles). Whatever does track is literally discrete pieces which can be picked up individually.Skoon was working… kind of. Problem is one of our cats is ancient and has kidney problems. Between the two cats, this makes a bag of Skoon last only a week on a stretch. The litter was performing very well, but it was very expensive. At ~$25 a week, value proposition is a stretch.Adding just a half inch of clay litter to the bottom of the litter box changed all this. The clay litter mixes between the bigger particles and acts as a binder. When it gets wet, it gets very sticky and binds all the wet Skoon particles together. Then the urine doesn’t sink to the bottom and you can cycle saturated Skoon particles out, just like a clumping litter (there’s a reason why clumping litters were invented). The net result absorbs liquids, absorbs odor, tracks, and has the “stirring weight” of the Skoon litter (I have not found any clay litter outside the litter box), and then it clumps similarly to a clay litter. The Skoon lasts at least 3x longer and the value proposition is much improved.

    Fantastic Non Toxic Substitute!
Alright, 6 months in. This stuff works! But be warned, when it dies, dear God it dies hard!! I use one bag a week for a two cat household. I tried removing crap and mixing pebbles to eliminate smells but really it made it smells so much worse and was a pain in the… (One cat is a male and they smell!) The product does track a little. If you don’t have a separate cat room and need to have a “clean” non toxic product that has zero chemicals involved, this is the best I’ve found. Yes, It is expensive but well worth it in exchange for not adding to the toxin load in the air we breathe including our fur kids. Just make sure you hold your breath and don’t inhale any dust when pouring new pebbles in your litter box as that’s the only danger. I use a big light colored, plastic cheapo, roomy hooded litterbox that you unsnap when cleaning. I did buy an $80 Levoit Hepa filter (Amazon too) as well to run in that room and that thing is a huge help!

    Very Disappointed
I have 2 cats and 2 boxes and have tried various types of litter to see what would work best for us. My cats aren’t picky so I have been able to trial thing’s easily. I’ve tried clay clumping, non clumping, pine pellets, and crystals. Over the course of my trials I realized that clay non clumping is by far the easiest to clean and maintain. There was just one problem. The lightweight of the non clumping clay allowed my cats to kick copious amounts of litter out of the box leaving me to vacuum it all up regularly. So I wanted to try a non clumping litter that was a bit heavier weight to see if they would kick less out. While the skoon litter is lightweight, it is bulkier than fresh step non clumping, so they did indeed kick less litter out of the box. Unfortunately that’s really the only positive thing I can say about this litter and I’m really bummed because this litter really appealed to me and I really wanted to like it. Here are my complaints:1) The price is ridiculous for such small bags of litter. There is no way I wanted to keep spending this kind of money every time I needed more litter. We have 2 large boxes as one of our cats is very big and he likes to dig so we end up going through massive amounts of litter as part of the box maintenance. 3 quarters of one bag is used up for one box leaving only a half a bag left, meaning I would have to spend an additional $55 to get more bags of litter when I came time to replace it. By contrast, an over 30lb bag of fresh step is only around $20. The economy sucks so I obviously need to go with the more affordable option.2) The claims on the package are false. They say low dust, well this is by far the DUSTIEST litter I have ever used. Dusty to the point I had to stop and leave the room because I didn’t want to breathe it all in. The dust coated areas around the box and the cats who began smelling like dusty litter.3) They say “best odor control”, well in my experience there is zero odor control with this litter. The smell of feces linger and the urine sitting in the bottom of the box also makes the room smell like cat pee. The smell was so awful I gave up after a week and a half. $55 down the drain. I don’t want my house smelling like pee and poo. To be fair I did not use their scented options so it is possible that the scented versions prevent this issue. However you can’t easily get more than one bag at a time of the scented varieties.4) Super large pebbles make scooping a time consuming pain in the ass. My goal in switching to non clumping litter was to spend less time maintaining the box every day, and also make it easier to empty and change the litter without scrubbing for 30 mins. This litter defeats that purpose however because the pebbles are so large that they don’t pass through my dura scoop so I can just get the poop. Instead I get a shovel full of litter which is so incredibly wasteful. So I spent more time trying to carefully pick out the poops with the scoop a tiny bit at a time so I wasn’t throwing out all the litter. Huge pain in the ass and more work than I want to have to do every day.5) Not truly “non clumping” the urine sinks to the bottom and you do get clumps of wet litter stuck to the bottom of the box which means you still have to scrape and scrub all of that off when it’s time to change the litter. Completely contradicts the reason I wanted non clumping in the first place. So all in all I am very bummed and disappointed in this product. For such an expensive litter I expected much more, especially since this is likely the most expensive litter on the market. For the price I shouldn’t have had the issues I had. So I have since gone back to the tried and true fresh step non clumping with febreeze. Much cheaper, smells good, easy to clean, more litter for your dollar, and much much less dusty. Yes the cats do kick more of the litter out, but I would rather vacuum and have litter that I know works, than spend hundreds of dollars on expensive, stinky, dusty litter that creates more work for me.

Esta arena si logra encapsular mejor el olor a orina, antes compraba el normal pero probé el lavanda y es mejor.
